Candy Cane Cookies
1 cupshortening (can substitute half with butter)
1 cupsifted (4 times) sugar
1 1/2 tsp.almond extract
1 tsp.vanilla
2 cupssifted flour
1 tsp.salt
1/2 food coloring
Mix together shortening, sugar, egg, almond extract, and vanilla. Sift together and stir in flour and salt. Divide dough into halves. Blend food coloring into one half of the dough. Make 4" strips from each half. Place strips side by side, press lightly together and twist like rope. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Curve top down to form cane. Bake at 375° for 9 minutes or until lightly brown.
